Description

Tallahassee Branch of the University of Florida was created in September of 1946. Men were housed in the former barracks of Dale Mabry Field, which was deactivated as a military air base at the end of World War II. When the state legislature authorized co-education at Florida State College for Women, renaming it Florida State University in 1947, this area became known as West Campus. The housing on West Campus consisted of the former army barracks.
